Sleep Foundation rates the Essential medium firm (6). Its Layla Memory Foam review describes that model as reversible, with a medium-soft side around 4 and a firm side around 7. That makes the standard Layla more adaptable when you are uncertain about firmness.

Construction
The Essential uses a 2-inch open-cell memory-foam layer over a 7-inch polyfoam base. The Layla Memory Foam model uses copper-infused memory foam on both sides of a central support core, with additional transition foam on the softer side.
Performance tradeoffs
The Essential earned stronger motion-isolation marks than edge or temperature-control marks in Sleep Foundation testing. The standard Layla earned notably stronger pressure-relief results, but its deeper foam hug can make movement feel slower.
Value decision
Do not pay more merely because one mattress has more layers. The better buy is the one whose firmness and support match the sleeper. If medium-firm simplicity is already what you want, the Essential’s lower-cost design may be the more efficient choice.
